As I searching Google – looking for a southern deep sea fishing location I came across a site that linked me to Google Maps. What I found interesting was not only could I get the satellite view (which I knew) but I could get a street view, very nice. I searched in my local area and before you know it I was looking at the driveway and the front door of my home. WOW – I see my house as if I took the picture myself – now anyone can see my house. Just think about it, a stranger can peer right into your front door.
So at dinner last night, in one of those rare times that all the household members were together, I mentioned my Google Map experience. This kicked off a flurry of enthusiastic discussions about “big brother” watching us, identity thief and the good and bad of site like Facebook.
So let’s ponder these questions: Has technology gone to far? Have we lost our privacy ?Is it a good thing that our neighbor can “Google” your name? Is our personal information secure?
