It’s time to brainstorm again. Spend ten or fifteen minutes producing a list of all of the things schools expect of students and of the larger society. Again, go for exhaustion; go for comprehension. Aim for quantity over quality. A good way to do this is to (again) segment schools and students into more focused units (kindergarten and primary, middle and high school, then two-year college, then four-year college, and so on). You can also segment society (schools have certain expectations of students’ parents and family members and others for the community, for the region, for the state, for the nation, and even for the world). Again, the only grade associated with this activity involves a point toward your participation semester grade.
