WAVES LAB #4: WAVE PROFILES AND WATER PARTICLE TRAJECTORIES FOR PROGRESSIVE WAVES
Results
For #1, please use the 3hz and 4hz data.
(1) Plot the data from the wave sensor for each of the waves produced in lab. Determine the wave height
H and period T for each of these wave profiles, consider these to be your theoretical values.
For #4 please see atatched pictures 5915 and 710723 respectively, these pictures show the equation needed to model the displacement. You will need to contact me for the wavelength, or use a temporary wavelength to do the work.
(4) Plot measured particle orbits Use one figure per frequency.
See picture 770723 for number 4
5) Using Matlab find the free surface displacement, eta, over at least one full wavelength for both wave
profiles. Use only theoretical values calculated during this lab. Set values for z to be [0, -3/4h, -h/2, -h/4, –
h]. Set a particle horizontal location of x = L/2. Set t to be 10 values evenly spaced between 0 and 2.
