After reading W.E.B. DuBois’ “All Art is Propaganda” (anthology/textbook) and “Criteria of Negro Art”
Do you agree with DuBois’ stance that black art “must” be political (propaganda)? Or, do you disagree? I want you to argue your side in this discussion. Give two to three passages to back your position. I want you to also discuss why DuBois’ held this view (regardless of the side you take in the debate); what were DuBois’ reasons for taking this position on black art. Lastly, give me an example of black art today (could be literature, film, music, theater, dance, etc.) and discuss whether that example fits DuBois’ criteria for black art.
