Choose a non-fiction author of any style or genre. This will preferably be an author with a
reputation in non-fiction (think Bill Bryson, Jon Krakauer, Malcolm Gladwell, Barbara
Ehrenreich). Select a highly-representative example of that writer’s fiction. Now choose 1-3
chapters of the work (if it is book length), or a similar amount of prose if the author’s work is
usually in essay format.
Write a stylistic analysis of the extract you have chosen, being sure to concentrate on the
language of the author. Avoid literary analysis as much as possible.
