Media Application Paper. It will use course materials to write a short (650-700 words) sociological analysis of a selected media. This assignment has a 700-word limit. That is about one full typed page, single-spaced, font size 12, with one-inch margins.
Media includes, but is not limited to: visuals (posters, photographs, artwork, graffiti), music (lyrics, videos), current events (BBC, NY Times, Al Jazerra), movies, books, cartoons, video games, computer generated graphics, television shows, and social media. Please ask if you are unsure if what you have selected is appropriate.
Responses should be structured in the following manner:
First 175-200 words: Provide your reader a short summary of your media example. This will help the reader understand and see the media as you do.
Second 450-500 words: Analyze the media example using sociological concepts from the class materials. You are to explain how the concepts we have been learning relate to the media example you selected. Be sure that your paper uses sociological concepts from the class to analyze the experience. You should refer to your media example throughout this section, weaving it into your analysis in order to show your readers how to see it through a sociological perspective.
Attach the media example on a separate page. If it is not possible to attach the media example, then you MUST provide a link that is easily accessible for me. An example of this would be a link to a short description of a movie or the visual.
Please see the rubric for grading criteria and information about late penalties.
